The church of the Virgin Mary [ Church or cathedral ]

Krnov, Štursova, Minoritský klášter a filiální kostel Narození Panny Marie
The church of the Virgin Mary with the former convent of the Minorite order.
The convent was founded by the order of Minorites in 1273 and was a centre of culture and learning for centuries. The land parliament of the Krnov princedom was held here and in the 16th and 17th centuries, coins and medals of the Hohnzollers of Krnov were minted here. The church interior is decorated with frescoes by the famous painter Josef Stern, whilst paintings by F.A. Sebastini date from the 18th century and are exhibited in the refectory. The gothic vault in the side chapel dates from the 15th century. These premises are one of the most valuable historical sites of the town, and have kept the features of a gothic basilica.
