Zámek Sázava, bývalý klášter [ Castle - chateau ]

The oldest Slavonic monastery in Bihemia, founded by the Benedictines and dukes of Přemysl in the first half of the 11th century. During Hussitism the monastery came to profane hands and since then it has been decaying considerably. Only after the Thirty Years´ War Augustin Seyfried, abbot of Břevnov, succeeded in returning the monastery (redeem). The end of monastery came after its abolishment by Joseph II in 1785.
In 1809 the property came to profane ownership again and it was partially rebuilt into a chateau.
Since 1951 the former Benedictine area is a property of state.
